Question:

Been tricked a bit by my parents.. unsure about what to do?

my parents are flying back from america to the uk tonight. their flight was delayed, and they said that they cant go on the coach so asked if i could pick them up. i said i would. anyway now my sister told me that theres a coach that leaves 50 minutes after they land, which they can catch, so after checking out of the flight, they would only be waiting 25 mins or so to get the coach. in contrast, it would take me around 4hrs (maybe more) to pick them up. as soon as my sister told them that they could get a later coach, they asked to speak to me, and they told me if i didnt pick them up they would have to get a taxi.

so im annoyed that they lied to me about having to take a taxi, and they want me to spend at least 4 hours to save them about 25 minutes of waiting.

so im wondering if i should just not pick them up, and let them get the coach. im 20 yrs old and dont really know my way around that well, and my car is pretty slow, so it might not even end up being slower on the coach.

i want to do the right thing, but i dont want people to use me and

take advantage of me.

(there is also an issue that they owe me some money, and i dont want to jeopardise that!)

what do you think?

thanks

  1. First of all are you sure that is the reason? maybe they've been advised that they won't be able to get seats on the later coach as they're all booked up. Depending which airport they're landing at, Heathrow for example,  50 mins might not even be enough to get through immigration and to the bus station. it's a very long way.

I think I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. How about your sister? could she go along with you for support and mapreading?

  2. let them know you've found out that there is a coach after all phew so they're not stuck with having to get a taxi! what good news! you pretend you know nothing of their lie. if they say you're wrong about the coach insist that you are right, however, you can pick them up if they agree to pay you back the money there and then. if they don't pay up, you leave them there. you may have wasted your time but in doing so you might teach them a lesson

  3. Let them get the coach! Let them know your pissed off at them and say i want my money back! they have to give it back to you! Thats so annoying!

  4. Would they do it for you???

  5. let ur parents get the coach

talk to them about it when they get back

  6. If you think your parents would collect you from the airport - and they have in the past then you should really repay the favour.  Additionally when you have travelled you are quite tired and the last thing you want to do is to sit on a coach for a few hours.

I personally dont see what they have done to trick you - they may have misled you a little bit.  And regards the money, if your parents owe you some money then they wont hold something like this against you, although they might think twice should you ask them a similar favour going forward.

Couple of things to also take into account is that do you have work tomorrow?  And or do they?

My tip would be to pick them up - they are your parents, and Im guessing they will really appreciate it.

    xx

  7. Think of it this way. You are 20 years old. Your parents spent 20 long years of thier lives first bringing you into this world, they have always been there, imagine the sleepless nights they had, they taught you to walk, then your teenage years!!! I know parents can be unreasonable at times, but my dear this is the least you can do for them. :) forget about money, money comes and goes. They spent thier livelihood on you, its ok, just pretend they never borrowed the money. Forgive them :)  do them a favour, please pick them up without complaining. :))

  8. i would let them get the coach..if not get them to pay for your time and petrol!!!!

  9. Maybe they're not aware that there's a coach service? Just a long shot. Call them and tell them about it.

  10. Get in touch with your parents and tell them you will not be able to pick them up.  Have a good excuse ready.

  11. I think you should do the right thing for your parents and pick them up.
