Aussie pacer Ryan Harris has backed spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Beer-c1949, saying he deserves a place in Australia’s playing XI for the upcoming Test series against the Windies.
“He's worked bloody hard on his bowling,” Harris pointed out about the left-armer.
Beer made his Test debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in 2011, though he did not end up featuring in the playing XI, and was not awarded
a Cricket Australia contract.
His domestic performances however, kept him in the selectors’ minds. He claimed 26 wickets at 26.42 for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 remaining his most prominent performance.
“He's bowling well, he had a good summer in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and he deserves his spot and he deserves it if he gets the opportunity to play in the Test match,” Harris said.
In the recent tour match against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harris-c61739 feels reflects the amount of hard work the 27-year-old has done.
“Even today, he had a guy going after him and he was able to make those sorts of adjustments to stop him from hitting over his head,” the pacer pointed out.
While the left-arm spinner is likely to be left out of the first Test in Barbados in favour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nathan-Michael-Lyon-c78822, Harris feels he may be considered for the second two Tests, in Trinidad and Dominica respectively.
“I reckon the other two Test venues, I think there could be a chance of playing two spinners,” he said.
“He thoroughly deserves to be in the squad, no doubt about that. He's putting pressure on Nathan as well - that's their little duel,” he added.
After two frustrating draws in the limited-overs leg of the series against the Windies, the Australian team will be looking to claim a series win away from home in the extended-overs fixtures due to kick off on April 7.
