Question:

Beer-drinking limit at Bars?

I went to Boston Pizza with a friend earlier today and ordered pitcher of beer for MYSELF. The server seemed kind of shocked that I wanted it to myself (and not to share with my friend). He said he's "not sure" if he can serve a pitcher of beer to one person due to "legal technicalities." Does anyone know anything about this?

I ended up telling him I'll be sharing it with my friend. I drank it all on my own anyways. It was about three pints.

  1. Many states have regulations for how many drinks can be on a table at one time. For example here in Chicago a friend of mine wasn't served a boot at a local German restaurant because there would have been too much alcohol on the table. Had he have had another person with him...it would have been fine. I imagine that Ontario has something similar on the books...maybe the first waiter wasn't familiar with the regulation?

  2. The bar I go to has no-limit for me!

  3. I know in MA they can only serve you two drinks at a time for on premises purposes.  So, two beers would be the maximum for 1 person, if the pitcher is 3, then that's actually not legal for them to do that.

  4. 3 beers i all they alowed to serve
