Beer stein in paris?

hello! i am an American currently studying abroad in Paris, France. The one thing my father asked was to try and bring him a fancy beer stein home. I've been searching all the local shops and haven't been able to find anything yet. Does anyone have any idea where i could find something like this in Paris. I'll be here June 30 - Aug 6 so any thing before i leave would be much appreciated! Thx.

  1. Beer steins are hardly French, so it's not surprising you're having trouble finding one!  But have you looked in souvenier shops, it's surprising what you can buy.  Or, look in the glasswear sections of department stores such as Monoprix.

  2. They are actually quite easy to find in Paris. They are simply found in liquor stores. Most sell beer and sometimes the beer glass that comes with a specific beer. Here are a few addresses of places selling beer only but regular liquor stores would sell them too, just walk and look around : http://www.guide-biere.fr/trouver/ouache...

I think La Cave à Bulles would be your best bet because they sell only French beers so it would be more authentic and I would be surprised if they didn't sell beer accessories: http://www.caveabulles.fr/

The main beer regions in France are the North and Alsace so you can also try an Alsacian brasserie. The most famous is Brasserie Lipp. I know famous cafés (like les Deux Magots) have an overpriced souvenir store so maybe Brasserie Lipp has one too.

Another option is to go to a bar/pub specialized in or serving a good selection of beers and ask them if they sell steins (= chope). Paris is a a wonderful (but expensive) place for beer lovers as you can find hundreds of beers from around the world in just one place. One of the most famous beer bars in Paris is Le sous bock tavern in the first arrondissement (49 rue St-Honoré - Telephone: 01-40-26-46-61) They have over 400 beers there. Belgian beers (and a lot of northern France beers) are recognized as some of the best beers in the world because they are artisan beers (brewed by trappist monks or in the trappist monk method). They usually have cool steins and glasses.

  3. While I don't know the answer to that question- I checked on http://www.pagesjaunes.fr/trouverlesprof... the French Yellow Pages website and the results were inconclusive. You might consider the following:

    FIRST OPTION

Ask this same question in French ("Salut, je serai de passage en France du 30 juin au 6 août et je voudrais savoir où est-ce que je peux acheter des chopes à Paris- c'est pour offrir à mon père? Merci d'avance." The place to ask that would be: http://fr.answers.yahoo.com/dir/;_ylt=Ap...

    SECOND OPTION

I found a website that could be of interest to you: http://www.lachope.com/frame_forum.html If you like, simply ask the above French-language question, after filling out the fields on the website ("Votre nom" = last name, "Votre prénom" = first name, "Votre e-mail" = translation presumably not required, and "A vous" is simply where you would type your question.

Good luck; I hope this helps. Paris isn't especially associated with beer- this would have probably been an easier request to fulfil if you were traveling to, say, Strasbourg- but I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.
