Question:

Bees around my pool?!?

We only have 2 days of summer left, so I've been wanting to lay out at my pool and soak up as much as possible. But whenever I've gone out there the past few days, I'll see this HUGE bees flying all around! They're probably a couple inches in size. My mom said that they won't bother me, but I can't trust it. What's an alternative, or what can I do to get rid of the bees or make them not come around me?

  1. Try: spraying the area (if it's at your home) with wasp/hornet killer...

slather on some OFF Insect Repellent

NEVER wear perfume, hair products, or body lotion that smells "sweet" as you will attract them to you...food and sweet drinks (like softdrinks and even vitamin water) will attract them as well...

Other than that...usually bees will not bother you unless you bother them....

  2. try putting some jar lids of water away from pool.the bees are looking for water to cool the inside of their nest

  3. Well, of course bees are just normal during the hot summer days, but usually with pools you'll have a higher risk of bees being around. However your mom is right, if you don't bother the bees, the bees won't bother you. Whatever you do, DON'T kill any of the bees, because if you kill one bee more bees will come. Sorry,. there is no real ways of getting rid of the bees, usually they won't bother anyone so don't worry about it. Soak up the sun while you can.

  4. Get some ziploc sandwich bags and fill them 3/4 with water and drop a penny in, seal up and hang several around the pool area. The bees have a lot of eyes and when they see the penny reflection in the water filled bag they think it is a bunch of large spiders and webs so they will avoid the area to keep from getting caught it the webs. Also you could put a bird bath a little ways away from the pool since they are attracted to the water source. I keep several of these bags around my deck and shop area to keep the wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets away.

  5. Whether they bother you or not, they may.  You can put pop out in several cups and around the pool or the area and add a couple drops or more of dawn or maybe another dishsoap will work, they are attracted to it and they die.
