Question:

Beetle 2001 Oil Change?

I have a beetle 01, 1.8T which is using regular 5W30. I am consider changing the engine oil to synthetic 5W40 based on the manual.

Could anyone tell me how to do it? Do I need to flush the engine compartment first and fill in some rinse solution then top with the new Synthetic one?

Or I just get rid of the old and fill in the new?

By the way, could someone with the 2001 manual tell me which oil the beetle is taking? I lost mine and only have a 2000 beetle manual.

Great appreciation. I need to do this quite soon.

  1. When changing from regular to synthetic in my 06 Volvo V70 the dealer told me not to worry.  The tech told me that I could also fill with a "semi-synthetic", which is a 70%/30% blend if I was worried.  I just went with the synthetic.

  2. Call a Dealer.  If you mess-up and take a chance and have problems later on, you'll hate yourself.

I'm sure some wise person has made a quote about "Save a penny now only to spend three later"  (or SOMETHING like that).
