Beeves has solid claims for Well Done Gemma McCarthy Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race at Hexham
Green Flag and Ronnie Rhino deserve a lot of respect, but they may find it difficult to outsmart Beeves in the Well Done Gemma McCarthy Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race, taking place at Hexham on Monday, April 23, 2012.
On a heavy ground, seven quality runners will pursue a cash prize of £1,369. Their names are: Beeves, Green Flag, Ronnie Rhino, Desitaire, Angrove Rumbaba, Beyond The Point and Captain Clayton. The 2m110y event is scheduled
to begin at 17:30 GMT.
Beeves made his debut in November last year, finishing fourth in the Brightwells 4yo Maiden (Div 1) at Dromahane. After staying out of action for more than three months, the five-year-old made his seasonal return in mid February.
Dunraven Arms Hotel 5yo Geldings Maiden saw him finishing first on the podium. Donald McCain’s trainee defeated the 1-2 favourite, War Correspondent, by four lengths.
The five-year-old is full of spirit following a comprehensive triumph. Hence, it would be a problematic outing for his opponents.
Green Flag is also full of confidence after two consecutive wins. The five-year-old started off this year with a huge bang, sealing the top place in the Tattersalls Ireland 5yo Geldings Maiden at Leadington.
The Lucinda Russell-trained went on to clinch another convincing win. At the end of last month, Milan’s son secured the top place in the Hexham For Tourists Maiden Open National Hunt Flat Race.
Ronnie Rhino is also a fresh winner. On March 22, the four-year-old registered first success of his career, seizing the top rank in the Carlisle Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race.
His win came after an unlucky outing in February, when Micky Hammond’s trainee ended up third in the 32RedPoker.com Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race at Doncaster.
According to our calculations, it is not going to be an easy trip for Beeves, who is carrying the highest starting price.
Green Flag and Ronnie Rhino are in good shape following their fresh victories, but they will have to perform out of their skins to notch up the top place.
