Before I buy one, could someone tell me if a lavalier microphone can be used with a Canon ZR 70?

  1. According to the Canon Web site, the ZR70 has two ways to add a microphone. There's a mic jack, which I assume is the usual 3.5mm phono plug, and there's a "hot" shoe. Canon makes a tiny shotgun mic for the hot shoe, but you would want the jack to use a typical lavalier mic.

    That input should be compatible with most consumer priced dynamic and electret mics, as well as some of the self-powered wireless mics (many of these hook in via a 1/4" plug, but would work with the kind of adaptor you can get at Radio Shack).

    Pro-class lavaliers generally hook in via XLR jacks, or custom connectors to wireless systems, and would at elast need adaptors to work.


  2. Yes, if its the cheap kind that uses a phono plug.

    Some wireless solutions use xlr which require a better camera like a GL/G/X from canon.
