Mount Everest was the highest mountain peak, even before it was discovered. The second tallest mountain is K2 in Nepal.

The answer to this is lost in history. Everest wasn't discovered 100 years ago. Ancient man probably walked by it. To actually answer this question, you will have to track human migration through history and that may not even be accurate...(Maybe Everest wasn't the tallest mountian 100,000 years ago.)

But the above poster is correct. K2 is the second tallest, but I don't think its in Nepal.
