Before doctors cut umbilical cords , did the umbilical cord "cut itself" ?

Doctors cut them now , but how about before doctors did this ?

  2. yes; they did find babies actually, with no cords attached to them. if it was not cut off, the baby would generally get infected and die-many would probably go as far as biting it off. stone tools were made though, a long time ago, near the beginning of man, so they might have used those.

    but even early humans with brains approx. three times smaller than ours, and even the austrolapithicenes (predecessor to humans) could figure out that the cord needed to be cut to separate the two people.

  3. if no one cut the umbilical cord, the placenta will come out of the mother and the placenta and umbilical cord will eventually dry up and fall off the baby. I'm guessing women would chew off the umbilical cord in the days before there were doctors, or cut it with a knife or sharp stone,( it depends on how far back in time you want to go) but before there were doctors there were midwives. women who had given birth before and therefore knew enough to help other women with their child birth.
