Before my dog eats he pokes the food with his nose before he'll eat, why is this ?

My dogs pokes his food with his nose ,l at the least 5 times , he'll go crazy crying just poking the food. It's a weird habit , and i'd like to know why.

My dog is always pick the food and throw every piece of her food like she's playing valleyball and since from last month, her daughter starting to do the same thing. I have to watch them do that all the time. It's  so funny because I always found a lot of dog food left behind that area .

He doesn't like the food! but since you don't pay attention he has to eat it!

If he is crying when he does this, it is that he doesn't like it and it is time to change.  I have seen many dogs pick their favorite pieces of food out.  It is because they like more of one kind than the other.  If you will notice on a lot of different dog foods they will have different flavors in it, and that plays a big part in their behavior as well.  I would just change out and see if that may help, good luck I hope this helps.

He could be trying to cover it up .I have a maltses if the food smells she will try to cover it up .she drives me nuts after she eats she will rub her face on the carpet i have to wash her face after she eats.She is very picky eater .Hey if you go to petsmart r superpets and get food if they don't like it you can take it back to get your money back.

My dog used to do that too. Come find out he was picking and choosing which of the food was fresh and which was stale and had been sitting there for a while.
