I'm 15 years old and I've noticed a small white hard spot on my back most gums... I could only assume that my wisdom teeth would be growing in. At my last orthodontist appointment I got an X-ray and the doctor commented on my wisdom teeth saying that "There may just be enough room for them." And they looked to be growing correctly as far as I could see. In addition my father has all 4 of his since they grew in correctly.

My question being, is there any chance I will be as lucky as my father? And in general do people get to keep there wisdom teeth if they grow in properly? I was beginning to believe that the doctors just take them out regardless of the situation.

  1. Theres a slight chance your wisdom teeth will grow in correctly...In my experience genetics have a lot of influence on your teeth.  However, dentists often do take wisdom teeth out even when they have grown in correctly because they are so difficult to clean properly and the future expense and pain of the fillings and root canals they will need is much greater than having them extracted right away

  2. If your wisdom teeth erupt properly, you can keep them all your life.

Many people don't have quite enough room for the wisdom teeth, and so they don't erupt properly, or they only erupt partially, or they are trapped beneath bone and cause all sorts of grief.  In these cases, they are extracted.  Extraction of wisdom teeth is simple and painless, and you shouldn't hesitate to have them removed if your dentist determines that they are causing you problems.  But if they don't cause problems, there's no reason to remove them.

  3. Even so they still cause problems when ur like 35 yrs  old.
