  1. BASIC EXERCISES.

    Breath.

    i. Lie on the ground, knees up, feet flat on the floor. RELAX. At the start you might be so determined to ‘get it right’, you might create more tension, so be aware of that. Where does the tension squat in my body? Is it the shoulders? If so, move them slightly; Feel all the tension falling into the floor. Put your hands lightly on your tummy. Now feel the breath going through the nose and right down under your hand, then breathe out through the mouth. That is not what is really happening, but it can help to imagine it like that.

ii. Breathe in through the nose  to a count of 4, hold for 4, and then breathe out. As you breathe out, keep going until there is no breath left, and you have. to breathe in. you’ll feel the ribs move quite substantially. This rib movement is an important muscle reaction you need to develop to increase capacity (You feel it when you sigh or yawn). Try and do it for a few minutes a day. Then -

iii. Breathe in for 4/hold for 4/out for 4.

Breathe in for 6/ hold for 6/ out for 6

Breathe in for 8/ hold for 8/ out for 8.

Try the same with counts of 10 and 12 after a while. Do each count a few times.

iv. Still on the floor, exercise the diaphragm. It’s a big muscle attached to the ribcage,  and if you pant lightly and continuously you should be able to feel it move inside. Don’t worry necessarily about making a sound. Just do it for a little while and feel the muscles working .You often feel this movement when sobbing or laughing.

    Resonance

    i. Still on the floor, give your face a good massage. Blow through loose lips.Move your head from side to side before  bringing it back to the centre.

ii. In for 4/ hold for 4/ breathe out on a Mmmmmmmm. Make sure the  hum comes from your mouth as well as your nose. Repeat on 6 and 8.

iii. Do the same again , start on Mmmmm, and then open your mouth for AAAAH. Feel how the resonance helps the richness and projection of the vowel sound. Do this for a few times.

iv. Sit up SLOWLY! (if you’re too fast, you might feel dizzy).Keep the back straight if you can.Circle the shoulders to relax them, and then do exercise iii again. Feel your face with your hand. Try and direct the hum to your hand. Move your hand to the top of your head. Direct the vibration there. Now feel your chest. Then try and direct the vibration to your tummy. If you’re doing the exercises with more than one person, get the other person to feel the back .

    v. The more resonant your voice, the less effort you will need, you’ll be less likely to injure it, the richer it will sound , and the more powerful it will be.

    DICTION

    i. Chew vigorously. Make your face as big as you can/as small as you can.

ii. Tongue to your nose /to your chin 3x

iii. Tongue to the left/ to the right 3x

iv. Put the tip of the tongue on the outside of the teeth, and roll it round the mouth 4x each way.

    v. Repeat putting the tongue on the inside of the teeth. 4x

vi. Blow out through the mouth with loose lips.

vii. Tttt – llll – dddd. These are all tip of the tongue exercises.. Do each one 3 or 4 times. E.g. tttt tttt tttt tah. Then llll llll llll lah etc.

viii. Then tttt llll dddd 6x

ix. Then tttt llll dddd, llll dddd tttt, dddd tttt llll. (imagine they’re written in front of you –if that makes it easier – do it through 4x)

    x. Do bbbb kkkk. Notice how with BUH the sound is thrown to the front of the mouth. KUH is at the back of the mouth. Try pppp and gggg similarly.

xi. Try saying B and P softly, and then explosively, Experiment with words like Bounce and bang, petal and power, how the emotion of the word comes through the sound.

Remember that when you start on a piece of text, you need to carry the work you do on the exercises with you. These few exercises, if done every day (and regularity is the key) will help to make your voice stronger and more flexible – useful in a whole range of professions as well as performing

  2. Do not have any dairy, stick to your basics.  Water is, of course, the best choice.

  3. drink water or tea.if you can get it warm, but not too hot, its perfect. if u can, do warm ups or hum in the key and melody of the song.if you develop a sore throat, take cough drops. i think ricola works the best.

    Hope that helped!!!!!!!!
