Question:

Before you block someone...?

Do you email that person (if allowed) and try to discuss why you're upset with his or her answer? Or do you block for other reasons? If someone blocks you, do you automatically block him or her back? I think the whole "blocking" thing is silly.

Thanks!

  1. People block because they don't want to be harassed. I simply state the truth..People don't like it......I got cussed out and everything by some girl who couldn't take care of her children if you don't like it, don't ask.....

  2. I only blocked one person.  I would have gladly tried to work it out through email, but that person didn't make that information available.  This person hurled all kinds of insults my way (although she was pretty obnoxious to any AP or adoptee with a positve experience) and while I am interested in learning more about the adoptee perspecive, it needs to be done so in a respectful manner.

In general, it is silly, but if you have a troll attacking your every question and answer, it is your only means of defense on here.

  3. Oops!   I just read another response that describes what it looks like when you block someone.  I was wondering what that was!   I guess I blocked someone without knowing it.  Oh well, no biggie....look at where you are.

  4. i agree with Opedial if there is someone that is offensive then blocking is necessary......

  5. If someone has been pretty belligerent or has made it clear that my answers are unacceptable, I block them. Not only does that prevent that person from sending me new emails, but in future, if I forget the name of the person, I am also blocked from answering their questions.

  6. I donno... I've never blocked anyone. But I agree with you 100%

  7. If you are not angry, and can discuss the situation calmly with the person (this means accepting that they may have a point), then by all means, e-mail them and try to work things out. It's so easy to misinterpret how things come off over any written form of communication.

On the other side, if someone blocks you, yes, you should automatically block them back. There is obviously no working things out at that point, and you just leave yourself open to 'sniping' with no defense.

  8. yeah i agree with u

  9. There are people so offensive I just block them.  I do not block them because they have a different opinion, but because I find them rude and offensive and I really don't have time in my day to deal with that.

If peopel block me then that is fine.  Blocking, while seemingly silly can help navigate the system and allow you to not see comments you know will upset you.

  10. I agree. lol I think you should not have to contact them before you block them just do it.

  11. I block ANYONE and EVERYONE who does NOT COMPLETELY agree with me...because as you all know... MY opinion is the only one that counts...that's why I have no more Contacts or Fans...LOL...ALL of you that do not agree with me...WELL consider yourself BLOCKED!!!LOL!!!!Aloha!!! Still trying to send that Pic!!!Da*mn Computer!

  12. I block anyone who insults me or my children. No second chance here. Anyone who insults my family is not worth even knowing in my books.

I don't block regularly, but if someone attacks me, I don't want to even know them.

  13. I'm not sure how to block anyone...but if someone is offensive, down right rude, or threatening, I have no trouble with blocking.

Reporting questions just because you don't like the person or the point of view ... that is another thing!

  14. You're right, it does get a bit ridiculous. I've only blocked one person, but that's because the person was hurling racist epithets at me and was clearly unreasonable. If I felt they may have understood me I would have emailed them first, but there was obviously no point.

All that being said, you really have no control over one or another's opinions and ignorance. Block them if you just don;t feel like dealing with them, otherwise ignore them and be on your way.

  15. I agree. I have never blocked someone, although there are three here on this forum  who have blocked me (or are they all the same person.. I sometimes wonder)

Yeah, I think it's pretty silly. As if I was "harassing them" via email or something. PFftt.. They blocked me simply because I frequently disagree with them.

If one of them posts a question and I wanna know what it is, I just sign out and then go back and read it.. Not hard, so don't know what the point is.

But I can see where blocking may be necessary, if someone (as Opedial said) is so offensive you don't want to be bothered seeing their q's and A's..

  16. I think I've only blocked 2 people in nearly 10,000 pts. I did it because one wrote to tell me I was a r****d, and the other wrote to tell me that I was a douche bag. I have absolutely no idea what they read that set them off. There was not much more to the message than the name calling. Can you say "sticks and stones, baby"?

I wrote each of them back to thank them for making my day by letting me know something I had written totally provoked them enough to take the time to write, because I love to do that, and otherwise I would not have known! Then I blocked them.

Otherwise, I don't pay attention to it. I don't even know how to tell if someone's blocked me. Eh. I don't care!

  17. I do not block people. People can disagree about things thats life.

  18. i do try to email people, especially if their question or answer offends me. i don't block just because i disagree. i know of only one person who does this and she know who she is,

  19. Agreed! Blocking is silly. And so is all the "thumbing".

I blocked someone once by accident...I have a laptop and sometimes the touch-pad is sensitive. I did not realize it until I saw a big red circle on one of their questions....at first I thought they had blocked me.  LOL

  20. I only block the ones who are abusive. Other than that I just laugh at the morons.

  21. well it is kind of childish to block them bak. but dont stress it because they will start thinking of you and unblock u.

  22. It's like snuffing someone out of existence.  You were there, I blocked you, now you're gone.

  23. How do you tell if you are blocked.

  24. i tried that one email just got a violation note

so i block we have heaps of trolls in AFL so its better to block
