Begemann/Kudryavtsev defeat Petzschner/Waske in semi-final – Eckental Challenger 2011
The semi final of the 2011 Eckental Challenger continued on November 4, 2011. The team of Andre Begemann (Germany) and Alexandre Kudryavtsev (Russia) played the semi final against the German team of Philipp Petzschner and Alexander
Waske. Begemann/Kudryavtsev won the match 7-6(10), 6-7(4), 10-4.
Both teams were playing their offensive games and equally dominant throughout the match. They were not only going for the win but the way their played this match really proved they would make it big in the doubles division in future.
In the first set, Begemann/Kudryavtsev scored two aces with a double fault once in the set. Petzschner/Waske scored one ace and a double fault once. The German team had a higher first serve winning ratio with 78% as compared to
the 57% secured by their opponent.
The two teams were equal with points won on first serve. The German pair won 84% of their points on first serve while Begemann/Kudryavtsev won 85% of their points.
Begemann/Kudryavtsev could save three of their breakpoints out of four while the German team could not save the only breakpoint they saved.
Both teams were showing their enthusiasm to enter the finals of the tournament. They were not only offensive but their cautious game play took the set into a tiebreaker. Begemann/Kudryavtsev won the first set 7-6(10).
The German team made a nice recovery in the second set. They scored seven aces and won 91% points on first serve. They had the strategy to take on the lead in the second set but Begemann/Kudryavtsev were not faltering back either.
Although Begemann/Kudryavtsev scored only a single ace, they did save all of their four breakpoints. The German team was also exceptional in saving both of their breakpoints. The teams were not letting their opponents gain any
points and the set was again an interesting one.
Petzschner/Waske were the leading team in the second set by scoring 91% points on first serve. Their opponents could only win 71% points on first serve, as they did not get any room to score points with the German’s replying with
their excellent run in the second set. The second set again went into a tiebreaker, which the German team won 7-6(4).
With the final spot at stakes, the match entered into a third set with both teams winning one set each. None of the teams scored an ace but did concede a single double point each.
Even though Petzschner/Waske had an 86% first serve winning ratio, fifteen percent higher than their opponents, but it was Begemann/Kudryavtsev who won all of their points on first serve.  
The German pair were looking forward to win the semi final and play the final on home soil, but Begemann/Kudryavtsev won the third set 10-4. They have now moved into the finals of the doubles competition of the 2011 Eckental Challenger.
