Begginer Guitar?

Hi I want to start to play the electric guitar(people make mistakes with acoustics) I ask some of my friends to help me pick a guitar. Almost all of my classmates started off with a fender squier strat. I though it was nice but i want to play a heavy/death metal songs and punk, rock. etc all those. A squier won't really sound that good. I heard that LTD has some very good guitars. So if you have the answer please write!

P.S. my budget is about $100.00 to $500.00!

  1. Any guitar with at least two humbuckers should do the trick really.

  2. LTD has no good guitars.  They're nice for a few months, then they fall apart, start to crackle, sound like c**p, etc.  Your friends were good to start off with Squier Strats, they're a solid beginner guitar.  You're right, though, they don't really sound that good.  A real Strat would, though.  They make 'em with humbuckers.  If I had $500 to spend on a guitar, I'd get something used.  Avoid Guitar Center like they have the plague.  Don't be tempted to buy something that looks cool.  Those guitars are trying to make up for playing poorly by looking cool.

The problem is, the guitars they sell to kids just aren't quality instruments.  The makers don't expect you to hold on to it forever, they know you're going to "grow out of it" someday, so they aren't built to last.  Even PRS makes a guitar under $500 these days, and it's a piece of c**p!  Look for something nice, used, understated.  Put stickers all over it, paint it if you have to.  But buy a real guitar.

See if you can find a used Fender.  Or, perhaps, a QUALITY Ibanez, used, near the top of your price range.  Jacksons are still a quality instrument too.

  3. Hmmmm good thinking on your part. Metal isn't ment for a strat. Ibanez are very good metal guitars, the guy from slipknot uses one....ah, i just found one. Check out Musicians Friend site, look around see what ya like.

  4. Get a Schecter dude. :)
