Beggining acting and modeling?

how do u start? especially if u live somewhare like oklahoma and dont have alot of money? i heard of the john roberts power thing but i also heard they're expensive and take evryone, so what's anothe option, for teens starting out?

for John Roberts Power and other agencies like that they're scamming alot of people. You are really paying for a bunch of unproffesional headshots of yourself which you might not get. and if you have a complaint or want your money back you wont be able to contact anyone. all these actors and models are so because they know someone (very important) or they got lucky from an audition at the agency that is doing the commercial, show, photo shoot. etc.  Model and Talent searches like John Roberts Power, Proscout, and model productions etc. are just the middleman and you can blaze right past them right to the source.

I would really recommend getting involved with school and community theater productions first and if you want to model for ads, check with the advertisers in your area. Quite often department stores use local talent and have photographers work with models at their main offices. Ramp modeling is a whole different matter. This requires training with the RIGHT people and unfortunately, most agencies that represent models also train them for extremely expensive fees. You will have to sign a contract that is very difficult to get out of. Been there, done that, don't go that route. They require photos by their recommended photographers, which is also very costly, and just because you graduate from their school and have been called 'cute' doesn't guarantee you work. Most successful models are "discovered" by professional agents and not self made. Good luck to you!

start small. go to creigslist.com and look for job offers. send in pictures of yourself to some agencies and see it goes from there. but beware! if u do get in to modeling..... lots of teen models have to have have toothpick bodies and be on special diets and sometimes starve themselves because there not skinny enough and that will lead to health problems. so don't get sick and starve yourself. good luck!! best wishes!

you have started by being in plays at school, in the large cities like Tulsa, there are talent agencies, avoid Powers and Casablancas and Barbizon all of which have reputations as scams.  Get your parents to help you apply to the legit agents, to help you find acting studios to take classes at, and to help you find other plays to be in.  That is how you start. Your parents are a must because you cannot sign a contract until you are 18.

Get some training even if it's from a good DVD/book. Then watch the craigslist.org listings for your city (or nearby) for acting or modeling jobs.
