Question:

Begin Runner- Program to start?

I've been wanting to run for years, but I have exercise induced asthma and could not take the inhalers, as they hurt my lungs. I now have acquired a pill and the asthma is no longer an issue..... I've been speed walking for about a year now, random hills, highest setting-#20.

I really want to start running....how much to begin, how long, what conditions should I keep an eye on? I don't want to hurt myself...but really want to get going bad.

Do you have a mini-program to get me started?

  1. Start by warming up by walking briskly for 5 min. then start to JOG for about 10 min straight... if you start breathing very heavily (you should breathe heavy though) become light headed or cant breathe at all at anytime, stop. but if you can continue jogging the 10 min, then finish it off with 5 min. walking... work your way up... and there is no need to run for more than 30 min, unless you like to.

  2. jog for 5 minutes or so then walk for 10

    repeat 4-5 times

increase running time and decrease walking as they get easier and you get in better shape

and soon youll be runnning 3-4 miles nonstop

make sure you listen to your body though

youll have to take it very very gradual

    GOOD LUCK!
