Im 14 and the only time ive ever taken dance is when i was about 8 or 9. Ive always wanted to start dancing again and do pointe an dlyrical and everything but i feel as though its too late for me to sign up. Do most places have beginners classes for teens?

Also do i need to become flexible before i start any classes?

because im not very flexible.

And do summer dance classes teach you as much, cause im on guard so i dont think i can do dance and guard at the same time during the school year.

  1. most places have beginners clases for little ones or adults. first you just have to get started. i would advise getting into an adult beginner class and learning the steps, etc. (you do not need to be flexible when you first start. that comes with time and stretching)

seeing as you are doing guard during the school year, i would try to find a studio that offers adult classes in the evening and take those. or find a way to work your schedule around your activities.

dance is an art that requires year-round training, dedication, and depending on how serious you get, lots of time and practice. and in oder for you to work up to pointe work you will have to train consitently for a long time, same with any dance or art form.

But is is NEVER too late to start.

i hope this helps and encourages you to pursue your dream!!! good luck!

  2. I'm 15. I've seen a lot of people start taking classes when their 13 to 15. It's really hard at first but if you work at it for a while, you will see results. (I only do ballet and modern). I haven't seen many beginner classes for teens, but there are deffinatly some out there. Don't worry about flexibility, you become more flexible as the year goes on. Go ahead and try a class at a few different studios, they may ask you to pay, or only let you watch, but this is the best way to find which studio is right for you. Although a lot of people don't take dance seriously, it's hard and you do have to commit to it to get better. It is hard for people to jump right into it (it's also scary if your teachers mean...). I highly recommend trying dance out though. It's REALLY fun once you get used to it.

  3. A lot of studios have beginer teen classes, but you may also be just fine in a studio where the classes are divided by discipline, you may not be too far behind, especially fi you have experience doing other sports, theatre, soemthing like that.

    Give it a try!
