Question:

Beginner's camera?

HI! (:

I was wondering if any one had any tips or suggestions on what a good beginner's camera would be? I would like to take professional style photographs. I have good experience with my digital camera (Sony Cybershot DSCW80 7.2 MP i think) but no experience with prefessional cameras, like a NiKON or something. I need it to last for a while, but it doesn't have to be super expensive either. Any ideas?

Thanks! :D

  1. Nikon, Canon, Casio, Panasonic and Pentax use SD / SDHC memory cards.

Olympus and Fuji use xD memory cards

    Sony uses Memory Sticks.

You can see your options are better if you buy a camera that uses SD cards

And yes Nikon makes some nice P&S cameras.

  2. Nikon makes point and shoots as well as

SLR's or the "professional" cameras.  Point and shoots take some awesome photographs so don't rule out the one you have already.  I carry an older Nikon Coolpix 1460 in my purse and have taken some fab photos with that little guy.  It isn't the camera, it's the person using it that makes great pics.  So if you're happy with what you have, join a yahoo group on beginning photography and get their opinions on how to better use what you already have.  If you are still wanting a better camera later, then they can guide you to what you should look for based on your plans to use it. :)  Good luck!!!

PS  If you do go the SLR route...stick to Canon or Nikon.  Other companies make nice slr's but they make a zilion other products too and their options for accessories are very limited.  Nikon and Canon are just camera companies and it shows in their quality and options.
