Question:

Beginner Acro??

In September I will be starting acro. I've only done 2 years of jazz and tap when I was 7 and 8. I'm a semi-competetive gymnast, so I'm pretty flexible and I can do handsprings, carwheels, and walkovers. Will I be aloud to take acro, if I don't do any other types of dances? If I have to take other types, which ones? Thanks!

  1. Of course not. you can take acro any time!!! I love acro its amazing!! btw: lundees first before goin in class!

  2. You most likely will not need to take any other dance classes but of course if you took a extra dance class or two it would help out on technique (ballet) and style (jazz, modern, theatre, lyrical, hip hop, and or contemporary). I hope that I helped you out a little.

  3. acro is such a fun class!  it is generally good to take a tumbling class to keep up your skills.  other dance classes help you to improve all around.  i would recommend also taking ballet and jazz(they are great foundations)  and if you want to try out lyrical, tap, hip hop, or musical theater that's always so much fun too!  happy dancing!  :)

  4. It depends on the studio, but I don't see any reason why they wouldn't let you considering your gymnastics training. But I strongly suggest taking ballet as well. I can ALWAYS tell the difference between a dancer who does acro and a gymnast who dose acro at a competition because of their technique. There's something about gymnasts hands, they way they stretch them out or something (I can't quiiite place it..) that just doesn't flow with dance technique. Ballet will also help you point your feet without crunching your toes. So even though they probably won't make you take dance, I strongly suggest taking ballet!! :) have fun!
