Question:

Beginner Guitars?

I want to start learning the guitar, but I know nothing about guitars. I've been looking around, and Epiphone is one of the brands I can afford that seem to have good quality guitars. Any other brands I should consider? And what models of guitars should I get? Should I get nylon strings, or steel strings for the guitar? I'm getting a standard sized guitar, if that helps.

for my first guitar i got an Epiphone SG for$169 and a raven 20watt amp for $99 and the amp had a built in tuner

and i LOVE IT!!! sounds great low price and i got it at the Guitar Center... but i must reccommend getting a case, i thought i didnt need one but boy am i glad i got it now!!

    Hope it helps

  2. I looked around when i first started, and I lucked out at a local Pawn Shop. I scored a beautiful USA made Fender electric for $250..Worked awesome too.  2 years later I ended up selling it for a lot more! So go check out pawn shops..there's lots of treasures in there.

  3. if you're getting an electric don't get nylon.

Nylon strings don't produce a good enough sound, as the pick-ups are magnets that detect vibrations in strings. Therefore steel strings work with electric guitars, whereas nylon don't.

Epiphones are good guitars, but you should choose it based on how you feel when playing the guitar.

Go into a guitar shop and try a couple out.

I usually prefer cheaper guitars than expensive and I have a lot of mates that do too.

    It's your own personal preference.

  4. do you want electric our accoustic? cuz if your gonna go electric, a fender stratocaster is affordable, and they last forever and always sound good. as for what kind of strings, you probably want to stick with steel, whether it be for accoustic or electric, actually i dont think ive ever seen nylon strings for an electric guitar...unless you plan on doing a lot of finger picking, but for the most part, if you are playing guitar, you are gonna be using a pick, and steel strings are the way to go.
