  1. i bought a 20 quid large headed (24" i think) racquet from argos and it has served me well. Excuse the pun!  If you dont want to spend too much money try a second hand shop.

Enjoy your tennis, and remember, practice makes perfect

  2. Start out with a recreational racquet, found at sporting goods stores, walmart, target, etc. Make sure to select the correct grip size, and make sure you feel comfortable with it. Then, if you decide you want to play tennis for a long time, go ahead and step it up and get a more expensive racquet. By the time you step it up to the next level, you should know exactly what you want in a racquet, considering weight, balance, string pattern, etc. You should also know if you are a big server, baseliner, net player, or all court player by the team you choose to buy a good racquet. I advise you to visit your pro tennis shop after you've decided to stick with tennis.

If you have a high budget, check out the game improvement racquets or the tweener racquets on this website:

It is important that you demo an "expensive" racquet before you buy it. There are many varieties of racquets and it's often hard to choose. Select the one that you feel most comfortable with.

  3. For a beginner, price isn't exactly an issue. What's most important is a racket that is comfortable. Just make sure the racket has a good grip and the strings are tight enough.

  4. As a beginner, I suggest you just buy a cheapo racquet to practice with. This way you will find out if you like the sport before you spend money on what you do not know if you will use later.
