Beginner at golf ?

Hi I'm 20.

I have just started playing golf. I took one lesson last late summer like in August, but didn't have much time to practice.

My exams are done, now I have started going at this driving range.

I don't have whole set of Clubs, just old few clubs that I got from my uncle.

He said practice from these atleast for an year.

Currently I am only using "Iron 7" at the driving range.

Is this club good for now ????

When I go to driving range, I see people with whole set of clubs ...makes me wonder if I should buy a new set as well...

thanks...

  1. Take it step by step.

Do you enjoy hitting golf balls on the range? Like to practice your swing? Feel good after a good hit? That's a good start.

I'll bet there is a par-3 course somewhere nearby. All you need is a 7-iron, 9-iron and putter (or close to it). Try knocking it around a little bit and see how you like it. (Get the missing clubs at a flea market or thrift store if you need help.)

OK, so far, so good. Now look into buying a used set of clubs as cheaply as possible. You might be ready to try to play real golf. Head for a public course that isn't too hard, and isn't too crowded. Knock the ball around a few times. If you like it, then look into another few lessons and eventually better equipment.

So just don't spend $800 on clubs until you are sure you like it.

  2. the 7 iron is a good club because you can do many shots with it. pracitse the pitch, chip, and distance shots so you can improve your overall game. now you have free time, go to the range and get lessons and practace whenever you can. if you want to be good, you have to work alot at your age right now. if you take too long you will lose flexability and not do well in golf. when your there and hitting balls, ignore the people around you. it doesnt matter if they have complete bags. it doesnt make you better. sometimes take a break to watch people around you to help stance, swing, and timing. i hope these tips help because i use them. im only 12 and i want to improve my game too. good luck!

  3. Im really new to golf to, and also around your age (23) my reccomendation is get at least a driver too so you can get a feel for hitting an iron and a driver (its different to hit a driver than an Iron.) also your local golf course will prolly rent you a set of clubs to use while you play on their course so that will give you practice driving, and putting. (i have found that the biggest impact on my game is putting and chipping) also if you want a new set of clubs...ask... your proshop guy will prolly be willing to work a deal. i know mine was. i got a 275.00 set of Clubs brand new for 135 cash out the door. and they are nicer than my brothers clubs and he plays league. (ones i got were Wilson GE 1200 with Muscle back cavity, i found a new set online at a discount golf place and the clubs w/o the bag was 249 on sale for 199.00) so like i said just ask, it cant hurt

  4. try these free lessons great help

  5. I would start easy, and try to deveolp your swing a bit before plunking down some money on a full set.  Do you enjoy hitting balls, or have you had a chance to go out and play a round or even 9 holes yet?  I would also suggest some time around the putting green too, since putting makes up almost half the game, and the object is to get the ball in the hole.  You can find whole sets for fairly cheap on ebay and various other golf stores/companies.
