  1. It may be beacuse they are rentals. Are you sure they are the right size? If they arent then this could cause them to be to turn in. If the skates are too big then your foot will not be in the right place. Is it your foot or your ankle? I have seen many people with rental skates and their foot starts to turn  with their skates on and it is really beacuse their boot is the wrong size or that it is worn down beacuse it is a rental. If you are thinking about continuing in figure skating i would really sugest buying your own skates. If you do buy them at a pro shop where they will make sure they fit your feet at no extra charge(at least mine does).

Kepp practicing im sure your foot will be fine.

  2. I DID ICE SKITING 2! =D and i used to have the same problem! u just have to 'train' it to B A GOOD FOOT and stay normal...LOL well ya no wat i meaaan...hopefully...anyways GL with iceskating! =D its RELE fun! the only reason i had 2 quit was cuz of my knees =[ ttyl!

  3. Hi- I am a figure skater and I have been skating for 7 years. I have foot problems too. There are bones sticking out of my foot. I had to get CUSTOM BOOTS. Sounds like you need to go see a podiatrist  or your pediatrician. Let them analyze your foot. Also go to whom ever you bought your skate from. Have them check the boot , its size, and most importantly the blade alignment. Blade alignment is one of the most important thing of a boot because it can throw you off balance if not done properly. Hope this is helpful.

  4. Are you wearing rentals or do you have your own skates?

Are the skate new or old?

Are those skates a bit big on your feet or fit like a glove?

Are you putting your skates on right?

         a. Before you put your skates on, unlace your skates enough that your feet just slide in.

         b. Once your feet are in the skate,  kick your heal back into the skate buy hitting the back of your blade. ( make sure your on the rubber mats in the arena) This should lock your heal into the boot.

         c. Now start lacing your skates. Get them tight, but not to tight to cut off your circulation. You know that you have them tight enough  when you have no slack in the laces.

When your feet are in the skates, do all your toes lay flat in the boot or are your toes squished?

Are your toes touching the tip of your boot?

If you answer these question I can help you better.

It sounds like your skates may be to big. On your next lesson, go in 5-10 minutes early and try on one size smaller and walk around and see how they work.

With rentals, I've notice that even if you get the same size skate each skate may fit a little different,  don't hesitate to ask for a different pair in the same size.   Usually the skates at the very top of the rack are not used as much and many have a better fit and also sharpen.

If you like skating and you know your going to stick with it, ask your parents to buy you your own pair of skates. The cost to your  parents  will be in the $45-$80 range, depending on if your going to get leather or not. Do Not Get the $20-30 pair, not enough support.  New skaters will  advance faster with their own skates if they are good quality.

If going a size down does not work,  don't hesitate to talk with the learn to skate director or your instructor for advice if this informaiton does not help. That's what they are there for.

And practice, practice, practice. Don't give up.

  5. i wouldn't worry too much about it especially if you're just beginning. many people have that problem i see it all the time, more so when suring public skate and you have people who have never been on the uce much.

my cousin has been skating recreationally for around maybe 3 or more years now and still has problems stroking with her left foot.

i say just let time do its stuff until your feet are more used to skate and skates on ice and it should balance itself out.

it wouldn't hurt to go buy your own skates and get them properly fitted, then walk around your house in them to get used to it.

also, going bwd on your 2nd lesson is pretty hard to do...

  6. if your skates are very weak you might have that but its probably because you are just starting your feet are not trained to stay in the right places so your left foot turns inward.

try doing some off-ice exersizes like standing on one foot on a stair and pushing upward with your ankle. also ankle rolls (like neck rolls) will help stretch them out. when you are skating try your hardest to keep them straight. even if this causes you to fall, it is an aspect of skating and you have to live with it.
