Question:

Beginner horse or not?

My son learned to ride on this 8 year old mare. She was 6 when we purchased her. She is trail & road ridden. Has no trouble crossing creeks or bridges. She is 100 %sound. She stands for baths, loads and ties. She is plow reined because she does pull a cart but has some knowledge of neck reining. We never asked her to pull a cart since purchasing her but she pulled a couple of elderly people around for the first 4 years of being broke. She rides bareback with and without a bridle. I have seen her spook she doesn't run she just jerks and lowers herself to the ground. She has had this boy do every thing possible to her or while riding with no response. I felt this mare was safe enough for my beginner son but now I am selling her I would like your opinion if she would be OK for a beginner.

  2. she would be the best kind of horse for a beginner because when he gets spooked he doesn't run and that's good.she would be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  3. I'm looking for a beginners or kids horse right now and from the description you gave of her plus the pic, I would definitely be interested in a horse like that! She sounds completely beginner safe to me too based on what you've said.

  4. Yes, by what she sounds like she is a beginner.

It is obvious she built a trust with you people and your son is moving on.

I had a beginners horse completely bombproof from this day on never has spooked on me or anyone in this family, even with semi-trailers going past.

I dont know where you live so ill just suggest some sites all around

    www.simpletrade.com.au

    www.dreamhorse.com.au

    www.thehorseexchange.com

    www.adhorse.co.uk

or i can give you this website to look up horse advertising in your area

    http://www.top100equestriansites.com/

    Goodluck

  5. Yes, from your description, she is beginner safe.  You didn't say how young your son was when he started riding her, but if he learned to ride on her then that qualifies as beginner.

List her for sale on http://www.liverystable.net and you might find a good buyer.  You have a good description of her, if you have some clear photos to go with it, you'll get a lot of attention.  I'll email you step by step directions for placing a free photo ad, if you like.

*Edit* You'll need to send me an email first, since you don't allow email from Yahoo!Answers.  Liverystable.net has free text ads, but photo ads cost $7.75 for 3 months.  There is a code you need to enter to get a free ad.  Anyone else need to advertise a horse for sale?  Email me for the code.

**Edit** She's pretty, too.  Be a picky seller, that is, make sure you are really happy with the home she is going to, and it will be a better deal for everyone involved.  Try to keep your son interested in horses, though...it's good for kids!  I think your mare sounds like a perfect child's first horse, and I'd advertise her that way.  There's a strong demand for horses that are safe and sane, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a GOOD home for her.

  6. I would LOVE a horse like that!! definatly beginer friendly!!

  7. She sounds wonderful.

Much better than the one I bought for my kids ( but he turned out great in the end luckily)

make sure she goes to a good home.

  8. Definitely a great horse for a beginner!

A horse that spooks in place is wonderful (if I had to choose!)

    No bolting!

Too bad you can't keep her but oh she'd be so loved with another child and teach them well!

Lots of parents looking for a trail safe horse for their little ones.  It's a family thing around here, pack up the horses and go camping with the family and neighbors!

  9. No horse is bombproof, but this one sounds as though she is as close to it as one can get.  You certainly can't garauntee that every beginner would do well with her, but if you tell prospective buyers what you have said here they will have the opportunity to decide for themselves whether this would be the horse for their beginner.

She sounds like a nice girl.  You shouldn't have any trouble finding her a good home....there are so many folks looking for good starter horses for their kids.

  10. i would say she is and she looks like that easy going kind of horse

  11. Well yes, I'm pretty sure that you can market her as a beginner horse. I'm surprised you have to ask though - you put your child on her! Surely you were confident that she was safe for him at that time?

Just be truthful - you don't need to put in your ad that she has been known to spook.  But if someone asks if shes totally bomb-proof, you should mention it.
