Im thinking of getting a bike to go riding with my mom and dad on the weekends. My family has become a bike family 3 out of the 4 familys on my dads side have a bike.

So Im like 5'10 155lbs decent strength.

I would more then likely have my g/f on the bike with me so she is smaller then me.

My parents ride a 1600 Honda goldwing.

So i need an idea of what to get for a started bike.

And no H-D sportsters. I dont want to lose money on a bike like that.

  1. Hello,

      I learned on a Honda 500 4 cylinder motorcyle. i think it was a 72 model.

750 4 cylinder are about the same.

These motorcyles are very well balanced, easy to operate and usually fairly inexpensive to buy.

If you spill it you haven't lost a bunch of cash.

If possible before purchasing take it to a good mc mechanic to check all the vitals. Tires brakes, clutch, lights etc.

I wouldn't recommend a passenger for at least a couple thousand miles of slow, easy, town type riding. An inexperienced passanger can be just as dangerous as a inexperienced driver.

New passengers need to learn just as the driver. Give yourself plenty of time to become comfortable on a bike before taking responsibilty for a passengers safety.

  2. Im 24 and 6'4 200lbs my wife is 5'4 and 120lbs, and i bought an '08 Kawasaki vulcan 900 custom one month ago, I absolutely love the bike, and with a price tag of 7300 its a sharp bike without the grandpa look. The bikes dry weight is around 550lbs so its not too heavy for someone of your size, i cant stand sportsters myself and didnt have 20 thousand to throw around and didnt want to get a crotch rocket cause I know all i would want to do is wheelies and for long rides it would be most uncomfortable, I absouletly love my vulcan 900 CUSTOM and would recommend it to anyone, look in to it.

  3. I understand you like buell but thats not a good crusier for starting off especially if you are riding with your girl friend i would say a honda shadow 750 it has plenty of power gets great mileage its not too small so you and your girl are comfortable and it is a honda so you know it will last forever

  4. The Kawaski Ninja 250 is a fully faired sport bike, and it looks great, runs quite well.  $3500, with a reasonable gas tank capacity. (300 miles on a tank) and twin discs.

Or if your mom and dad want to encourage you, Ninja 500.  Have you been good lately?  Maybe a buell blast?

  5. Suzuki SV650

  6. honda rebel if u want a small cruiser.  It would be easier to convince your parents to buy a small engined bike.

  7. SV650..comfortable to ride & drive, & good for passengers too...
