Beginner wakeboarder???

So this will be my second summer knowing how to wakeboard. Last summer I mastered getting up, riding the board, and going back and forth over the wakes. I have tried wake jumps, but when I go back heelside over the wake, its more of a "bunny hop". What am I doing wrong, and what are some beginner tricks that I can try?

  1. When you cross the wake, you dot actually try to "jump or hop" at all. If I were you, I would focus on the fundamentals of wakeboarding before jumping ie: edging, board control, surface spins, and switch riding. This will help your progression more than anything.

There are a ton of great videos that will help your riding progress. The best video I have come across is "The Book"

You can also check out Wakeworld.com for great advice

Finally, riding with people who are better than you always helps as well.

    good luck this season!!

  2. you have to bend your knees before hitting the wake, lean back and give a strong tug on the line to pull you over the wake harder..

  3. pumping the wake really isn't that hard once you get the hang of it,

so basically all you have to do is ride out far from the wake, like you've been doing then when you cut in heel edge you want to lean back pretty hard ( you should be going at a pretty good speed to get the most, but start out slower since your still learning, 18 or so, then work your way up to 19 or 20). then right when you get to the wake you sorta have to pull the rope down towards you and you launch yourself up in the air. you will probably have to practice this several times till you get it down, you'll probably spend alot of time tweaking it untill you get it right for you. But the main thing that you want to keep in mind is your timing so really focus on the wake and launching your self up.

if you are still having trouble check out wakeboard magazine, or their website, they have a lot of helpful stuff with fundamentals.

For me when I first started getting air indys where my first trick, then tailgrabs, then 180s and nose grabs, then I started working my way up to methods, 360's, backflips, combinations etc. but  jus go with whathever feels  natural for you and just play with it and tweak and you'll get it in no time
