  1. Absolutely.  However, if you are referring to your last question about how to crochet from a chart, you will have to start a new project.

If you want to do a round of single crochet on your granny square afghan, all you need to do (when you reach the desired size and you have joined your rounds) is chain 1, single crochet in the same place and single crochet in each stitch and chain space around.  When working corners, you should put 2 or 3 single crochet in each corner, depending on how you want the corners to look.  Sometimes 3 single crochet makes it a little distorted, so two might work better.  If you want to change to a different color of yarn when you do your round of single crochet, just finish off the color you are using.  With the new color, make a slip knot on your hook and join the yarn with a slip stitch.  Chain 1 and make a single crochet in the same place.  This video shows you how to do a round of single crochet.  It calls it an "edging" and it's not done on a granny square, but it's basically the same concept.

  2. If you are talking about doing rounds of single crochet around individual granny squares and then connecting them to make a whole afghan, all you have to do after you complete a round on a square is:

Slip stitch in the next 2 stitches and in the next ch-2 space so that you're in the corner ch-2 space of that square.  Chain 1, and then do three single crochets in the corner ch-2 space that you're in (that is how you do a corner).  To continue around the square, single crochet in each stitch and in each chain space, remembering to do 3 single crochets in each corner.  Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet you did in that round.  (If you want to do the single crochets with a new color, join with a single crochet in any corner ch-2 space, and then do two more single crochets in that corner before you move on as above.)

You can do this as a border around each square before you join them together, you can do it around the whole afghan, or you can do both.  The sky's the limit; whatever you like, do it.

You can even do 4 rounds of single crochets around a granny square and then switch back to granny square stitches on the same square (you will skip three single crochets between each 3-dc 'cluster' when you switch back).  I do this on a larger scale when I crochet one huge granny square...large enough to be a baby blanket.  I use a fuzzy yarn for the granny square stitches and then a regular smooth yarn for the single crochet rows.  It turns out beautifully.

  3. Yes. It’s hard to say without seeing it. You can single crochet (sc) around anything you can get a stitch into. You can sc around your convertible car top if you want to.

Are you already done with the afghan, all the granny squares attached to one another, and you want to do a boarder of single crochet around the entire afghan? Just start, usually to the left of a corner, and sc around in every stitch. Usually, depending on how you attached the squares, or how the boarder of the square was done.

When you get to a corner, you will probably have to play with it some. Try 2 sc in every stitch, work a few inches past the corner, then stop and see if it lays flat. If not, rip it out, try 2sc, then 1sc, in the corner stitches. Go a few inches past the corner and see if it looks right.

The thing is it’s your creation. Crochet is very unique (in my opinion) because you can adjust or alter to fit what you think is best. To keep things the same on all corners, write down what you did on your first corner, then follow that with the other corners. Don’t worry about it being “correct”, there is no right or wrong if you are creating it.
