Question:

Beginning Runner?

I would like to start running but I am terribly out of shape! I feel like I'm going to die after one lap! Where do I start? Do I just suck it up and do it? Do I ease in? Where can I find information on beginning running? Thanks!

  1. I just started about 8 months ago, and it wasnt as hard as it seemed. Just start of short distances, then gradually move up. I was running about a 6:45 mile then, and now i run a 5:50. Just keep on perservering, it will definitely pay off.

  2. Try a combination of run/walking. Walk a lot, then run a bit. then as you start to feel more comfortable running, run more, walk less.

If it hurts, stop. You shouldn't be pushing yourself too much.

You might be able to find a book on running, if you really want to take it seriously.

EDIT: I didn't mean to copy the chart of what the guy above me showed. I didn't even see his post until I posted this!

  3. well when i was training for a 5k race i stuck to this schedule and it helped me get a lot stronger.  It starts off slow then builds up to longer and longer distances, so you might like it.

http://www.halhigdon.com/5K%20Training/5... also there are sites like runnersworld.com and stuff for other general info, races etc.  hope this helps!
