how do i start an essay..

about alienation, loneliness..

such as in catcher in the rye (essay topic)

i have to talk about the character and his deal..

I never read Catcher in the Rye, but if your essay is on loneliness, then how about something like,"Not every one who is along is lonely.  However, many people who are alone feel such an intense sense of loneliness that they feel alienated from their family and peers."  Would that make sense for your assignment?

  3. There could be many ways to start an essay about this. One way would be to start by saying that Holden is portrayed by Salinger as feeling these things in the book, that this is a universal topic that many, if not most, adolescents can relate to, and proceed to explain why Holden feels alienation, loneliness etc. and why that is relevant to young men today. You could compare Holden to young men you know today, what ways they are alike, what ways they are different, and why. Just an idea, I hope it helps.
