I have a 7 year old second grader and am expecting a daughter in a few weeks. My husband and I have been throwing around the idea of homeschooling the 7 year old for a few months, but want to really look into what we would need to do to begin in our state (Minnesota). I've looked online a few times, but the amount of information is so overwhemling, I have no clue where to start. Any suggestions or hints? We'd really appreciate it.

  1. MN homeschooling law and requirements--

In young boys, I would suggest a hands on curriculum like Konos.  It's very different than the "textbook" such as schools use, but it is fabulous for energetic, curious little boys.  It would be wonderful for him.

If it is too expensive then just read about it and find a similar program that works the same way.  Remember that little boys are made to run, play, and learn by doing.  You want a kinestic curriculum for him.

  2. Try this website http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com

  3. Sounds like a great idea!  First go to hslda.com and find the rules regarding HSing in your state.  Then try to find a school with a homeschool umbrella program in your area.  Once you register your son in this program and transfer his records from his current school they will help keep records and administer Standard Achievement Tests/ ACTs (when he gets to that level) yearly.  Then you need to pick out a curriculum.  There are SO MANY curriculums I can see how it would be overwhelming ;)  Go to homeschoolreviews.com

to read about different grade appropriate curriculums and what others think about them.  Then buy the curriculum online (amazon, rainbowresources.com) or at your local book store.  Don't get stressed.  It's really great once you get the hang of it!  You wouldn't regret it!  Hope this helps :)
