  1. you will need:

    - strong will to persevere

    - determination and self confidence

    - skates (rentals will do when starting out, your own will be needed when you start things other than basics)

    - warm clothes (jumper, light top, GLOVES, nylons or thin socks, sweat pants. or if you're feeling brave, a dress/skirt and tights.)

    - money and lotsa tissues

    - ice

    - lessons (group ones are great for beginners, private lessons for when you get past the basics)

    - a coach (usually comes with the ice)

any history of dance or rollerskating will be helpful, but its not essential.

    good luck!

  2. - get group lessons to start with

    - go to private ones once your more advanced and you feel your teacher isnt giving you enough coaching because there are others in your group.

    - wear gloves and warm stretchy clothing on the ice

    - dont be afraid to fall

    - always try stuff even if you dont think you will be able to do it

    - dont be intimedated by better skaters. they will proberbly have been skating a long time

    - DONT get second hand skates. it might seem a good idea at the time, but skates tend to shape to your foot, and a second hand pair will not adapt well to your feet, and could be uncomfortable and worn down.

    - get skates that fit you. dont buy big ones to grow into . it will only end in you falling flat on your face

    - always make sure your skates are tight on your feet

    - keep your feet upright (dont bend them in and just rely on the ankle support)

    - always have fun. if skating is a chore to you, you will never get far

    hope this helps ;]

  3. at ure local pro shop, most rinks have one.

    u will need lessons duh!

    tights they're a good idea

    skirt or dress also optional.

GLOVES! alot of ppl forget these, they are VERY important.

i think thats it, have fun =D

  4. Well, first you need a skating program so you can take lessons!  USFS's basic skills program is called Skate with US, I believe.

Go to usfsa.org, click on the "clubs" link at top, and type in your zip code.  This will show you all the clubs in your area.  From there, check to see if they have learn to skate lessons.

Once you sign up, you'll need, mittens, warm clothing that allows you to move, a water bottle, and some kleenex.  Eventually you'll need skates, but to save money, you can also  rent boots from the rink usually for a couple dollars.

    Good luck!

  5. it's just like rollerblading if you have a background in that. many of the same ideas will carry through.
