  1. it all depends on the size you want. i have a 7.5 width the length doesnt matter too much. you choose by how comfortable it feels. Usally smaller board for smaller feet but i have big feet and i like the smallest size of average adult size decks

  2. Its not really the size of the board that makes beginners better but you should try to find a board that you feel comfortable on.

  3. i like the other guys answer...but when i started boarding i just ordered a cheap 40 dollar blank deck and then went from there asked help from local people that new a lil bit more than i did and they helped...

  4. the huge long ones are longboards(those arent for trick riding),dont go to walmart because even though your not going to try for tony hawk level walmart boards are made out of low quality wood and wont last plus they chip and by the time you replace that it would be easier just to buy a good one from a skateshop(like baker, zero,or element, those are good brands),the standard size for beginners are 7.75 inches wide and there all udsually the same length(around 31-32inches)

  5. theres no such thing as a beginner skateboard. and the huge long ones are most likely longboards, they're used for just cruising around and no tricks. skate board sizes dont vary much its usally 31-31.5 inches long.

you can go down to ur local skateshop and just order a complete and save alot of time, or u can put together a custom complete that should look like this

    griptape: blackmagic

    deck: any blank 7.8 width

trucks: tensor magnesium response, venture, independant

    wheels: bones 53 or 54mm

    bearings:bones reds

thats bout 100$ but well worth it, most decks go 120-150+

dont go to walmart or some toystore there skateboards suck. they're heavy, snap easily, chip easy, suck at grinds, hard to flip, suck at turning, wheels are like really soft so they're slow, no good aspects but i can go on and on about the bad ones. go to a skate shop or a online skate shop such as http://www.utilityboardsupply.com/c_comp...

  6. Go to like a local board shop that sells snowboards skatebaords wakeboards and all that stuff, and get the one thats their brand. Like here we have a place called The House so if you get the local shop brand they will be cheaper but still nice =]

Get the standard size, not a long board.

  7. My honest opinion would be to go to walmart.  pick up one of their boards for around 40 bucks and then go to a pro skate shop and buy new bearings.  The bearings you get are a 3 (I believe)  Change them out for a 7.  Then you can go fast with a new deck that is ready for anything.
