  1. Once you take a couple of lessons, make sure you get out on the course and practice what you have been taught. Once you are comfortable with the progress you are making find people of your talent and play with them of call on Gramps to assist you.

  2. Golf can be quite challenging to any who play it, and it can never be conquered, despite even tiger trying to do it.  but don't let that turn you away from it.  golf is very enjoyable, and you get out of it what you put in it.  I think you are on the right track getting lessons before starting public play.  I would wait until you can consitantly drive tyhe ball abotu 150 yards or more to start playing.  Good luck and welcome aboard.

  3. Golf is a difficult game, I think most people need to play 10-20 rounds a year to get any kind of consistency and improvement.   You can go with people any time, probably the sooner the better, just find some courses for beginners, and learn the rules and etiquette.  Contrary to previous answerers, I would not recommend going to the driving range often.  You will be much, much better off by concentrating on your short game.  Most beginners can easily take 10 strokes off their score by improving their short game.   If you want to hit balls while practicing, I would recommend 1/3 time hitting balls, 1/3 time putting, and 1/3 of the time chipping and pitching.

  4. I started when I was 15 also, golf is hard when you start so don't expect great things right away.  Go to the driving range often and don't try to crush every shot, you'll be ready to play with anybody in a week.  Go golfing with friends and relatives first so they can give you pointers.

  5. I got started a little later, I was 19, mostly due to the fact that I thought golf was boring and only for people in their 60's.

Golf definately takes a ton of practice. Get out to the range with people that know what they're doing and work at it. As long as you have supportive and patient people around you it will be a good experience. Don't give up, keep practicing, and within a month you'll be able to hang with all the other hacks.

  6. Golf is indeed hard and congrats to you for wanting to play; its a great game.   How your game develops depends on how well you practice.   After you get the basics from your lessons, you should hit the practice range a lot and practice with purpose; one shot at a time.   Lots of people make the mistake of getting a bucket of balls and just mindlessly hitting them.  Always aim at a target;  either a flag pin or a tree in the distance, etc.   After you can swing and hit the ball almost every time, you are ready to hit the course.  Find an out of the way 9hole course and pick a day when not too many people are out;  early in the day is usually a good time.
