Beibut Shumenov defies all odds and nails heavily experienced Enrique Ornelas – Boxing News
Beibut Shumenov, the current WBA World and International Boxing Association light heavyweight champion, defended his dual titles successfully for the fifth time in a row against heavily experienced Mexican proud Enrique Ornelas, the former NABF middleweight
champion, in a 12-round bout held on June 2, 2012.
The above duo headlined the pay-per-view which was organised and promoted by Chingis Shumenov of KZ Event Productions. The ring for the showdown was set up at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino situated in The Joint, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States and the fight
card was televised live on Fox Espanol.
The extravaganza was co-headlined by the eight-round welterweight non-title bout between Joseph Elegele and Lanard Lane. Beibut, 28, was undoubtedly entering in his career’s toughest bout as he was nowhere to be found in front of Enrique’s hefty bout-stacked
resume.
Beibut, who hails from Kazakhstan, was entering in his career’s 14th bout and boasted 12 wins and just one loss. Since his careers only loss the orthodox light heavyweight has been on a four-bout win streak in which he has successfully defended his titles.
His opponent, Enrique, 31, not only possessed an upper hand in experience but also boasted a decent win and knockout ratio as well. Shumenov has nailed just eight opponents by knockout whereas Enrique has pinned a huge 21 opponents by sheer knockout.
Enrique was entering in his 41st career bout and has emerged victorious in a total 33. The Mexican proud who has a bit tarnished resume was coming from a three-bout win streak in which he successfully pinned rookie level pugilists.
During the 12-round showdown, the arena was stunned as Beibut did not show any kind of mercy and battered and pummelled Enrique with full force. Beibut was the one who adopted the role of an aggressor and vehemently bashed Enrique by using his reach advantage.
Ornelas strived extremely hard but it seemed like he was intimidated from the swift and almost invisible jabs that stunned him from the very beginning.  Enrique was sluggish and hardly connected any punches as a result at the end of the bout Shumenov not
only grabbed a final unanimous decision but also led the score cards of all three judges in all the 12 rounds.
Shumenov literally did not give Enrique even a split chance to breathe. After the bout the proud Shumenov stated, “I trained very hard because I knew he (Ornelas) is very tough. His defense was very good. I wasn't able to show my best because of the arm
injury I suffered. I'm happy with the win.”
It must be noted that the Kazakh proud has collided with many big names and has easily nailed them including Enrique.
