Beibut Shumenov makes comeback to defend his titles against Enrique Ornelas – Boxing News
Beibut Shumenov, the WBA World and International Boxing Association light heavyweight champion, will return to the ring after a gap of almost a year to defend his two titles against Mexican proud Enrique Ornelas, the former NABF middleweight champion.
The ring for the bout will be stretched at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino situated in The Joint, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States and the pay-per-view will be televised live on June 2, 2012 on Fox Sports Net and Fox Deportes.
The bout is somewhat of historic importance for the champion Beibut since this is the same arena where he grabbed his WBA World light heavyweight title in 2010 and since then is defending the title successfully.
This will be the fourth bout in which he will defend his both titles. Shumenov is a prolific pugilist who has startled the whole boxing world and has performed feats that have caught media’s due attention.
Shumenov has been in a total 13 bouts and lost just one to Gabriel Campillo, the man from whom he later on not only avenged his defeat but also snatched the world title.
Out of his total 12 wins he has nailed eight of his opponents by knockout. The 28-year-old Kazakh brawler grabbed his both titles from Gabriel and since then has successfully defended them against Vyacheslav Uzelkov, William Joppy, and Danny Santiago.
The lethalness of Shumenov can also be understood by the fact that in just 13 bouts he has secured eighth position in the world rankings and has literally threatened the top ranks of light heavyweight division.
His Saturday night opponent Enrique, 31, is a powerful pugilist with an intimidating and hefty resume. The Mexican number two light heavyweight has been in a total 40 bouts and emerged victorious in 33. He has collected 21 of his wins by knockout and has
lost seven bouts in his career.
The veteran is on a three-bout win streak after his last loss to Robert Stieglitz, a bout in which he lost a chance to grab the WBO super middleweight title. At the moment, the odds are in favour of Beibut who has built himself a pretty flawless resume.
In addition, he also possesses the height advantage.
The details of the rest of the fight card will be released in the media in the upcoming days and more bouts will be added with the passage of time.
