Beibut Shumenov to defend titles against heavily experienced Enrique Ornelas – Boxing News
Beibut Shumenov, the current WBA World and International Boxing Association light heavyweight champion, will defend his dual titles for the fourth time in a row against Enrique Ornelas, the former NABF middleweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will
be held on June 2, 2012.
The above duo will headline the pay-per-view and the ring for the event will be set up at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino situated at The Joint, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The fight card is being jointly promoted and organised by Golden Boy Promotions
and KZ Event Productions.
The showdown will be televised live on Fox Espanol and will be co-headlined by the non-title eight-round bout between Joseph Elegele and Lanard Lane. The duo recently met at a pre-bout press conference and put forth the media there sheer determination to
nail the other one.
Beibut, 28, is a surging Kazakh pugilist who has been in a total 13 bouts and boasts 12 wins. The young lad has nailed eight of his opponents by knockout and since his last loss to Gabriel Campillo, is not only on a four-bout win streak but proudly holds
two titles round his waist as well.
During the media interaction, Beibut stated, “I’m going to be faster and smarter than Beibut. I’m going to please the fans.” It must be kept in mind that the Kazakh pugilist is seriously outclassed and overshadowed by Enrique’s hefty experience.
Ornelas, 31, has been in a total 40 bouts and emerged victorious in 33. The veteran has pinned 21 of his opponents by knockout and is, as far as the stats and technicalities are concerned, being dubbed as the toughest test for the young Beibut.
The Mexican proud is on a three-bout win streak and collected his last loss from Robert Stieglitz, a bout in which he lost the chance to grab the WBO super middleweight gold. While expressing his point of view regarding the upcoming engagement, Ornelas
clearly commented that he will take full advantage of his experience.
Enrique stated, “I’m experienced and ready. Training has been tough but good. Lots of hard work and lots of sparring. Long days at the boxing club. I’m still here!” At the moment the odds are 60-70 percent in favour of Beibut as he possesses only a better
win ratio but recently sparred with Julio Gonzalez, the former World light heavyweight champion.
Ornelas, if capitalises his experience can increase the 30-40 percent odds in his favour to almost 100% but only if he uses his experience carefully and in a witty manner.
