Being England’s Captain has helped my batting, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 – Cricket News Update
The English captain, Alastair Cook, who is leading the Poms in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 currently, feels the added responsibility of captaining the Test side after Andrew Strauss’ retirement has helped his batting.
“May be the added responsibility makes you more accountable to the side. That may have helped my batting...I really don't know if it happened that way but it's nice. As a captain you always want a good start with the bat... show that you can cope with the
demands. That's how it has happened but I can't put a finger on how it happened,” said Cook.
Scoring two amazing hundreds against India at Ahmedabad and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 in the second game brought
them back in the series, securing an unexpected 10-wicket win over the hosts.
Excited after leveling the series 1-1, Cook and company are ready for the final two clashes, which are expected to be big games.
“With the series at 1-1, and two more matches to go, it's a good place to be as a player. You want to play in big games and that's what we have over the next two weeks. That's exciting.”
Cook feels that the Poms, who are infamous for struggling against spin bowling, especially on sub-continental tracks, took a lot of confidence from the Mumbai victory, but need to improve upon it if they are to conquer the ‘final frontier’.
“What we are doing on spinning tracks is right. But we need to improve on that, and we'll need it,” he expressed.
Happy with Steven Finn’s recovery from a thigh strain, Cook revealed that the fast bowler’s inclusion in the side should be fruitful, given his pace and record in the sub-continent, particularly in the earlier ODIs that he played.
With the third Test currently being played in Kolkata, the four-match series still hangs in the balance.
