Being a Crime Scene Investigator.?

I've been really interested in Forensic Science lately, and I'm pretty sure it's what I want to do for a career. I'm only in 8th grade, and I know I shouldn't be thinking about it so soon, but I'm just so excited. I've read tons of books on being a CSI and I watch all of the crime shows on TV. I absolutely love Science, and I'm pretty tough, so I wouldn't really have problems looking at dead bodies. I know I probably sound like a freak, but I just want some detail about the job (preferably from somebody who actually does it). Oh and one more thing: about how long does it take and what colleges are best? I know you are probably thinking I am too young, but I'm just wondering. Thanks.

  2. Sounds as if you have a high degree of maturity and are giving your future some thought.  The problem as I see it, however, is the fact that you will most likely change your career plans several times in the next 5 to 10 years.  I suggest that you take appropriate courses in High School that will stand you in good stead when the time comes to make your final decision ... general courses in English, math, science, social sciences, etc. and get the very highest marks you can.  Do a lot of volunteer work and keep track of what you do and the time you put in.  Keep physically fit and participate in team sports.  Don't get yourself charged with any drug or liquor offences and when you get your driver's licence don't act like an idiot behind the wheel.  Never allow anyone in your car to have drugs or booze with them and remember that if someone with you commits a crime you could also face charges.  The point is that you will have to become a police officer first then, after several years of good police work, you can apply for forensic training.  Sounds rather intimidating, doesn't it?  Don't worry ... just do your best and see how your future unfolds.  I wish you the very best and hope you are successful in whatever career path you choose.  Cheers!!

  3. You're never too young to start planning your future. I don't know the answers to the questions you asked, but I applaud you for being inquisitive about your future at such a young age.

Good Luck and I Hope You Get The Info That You Need.
