  1. I've just sselected my A levels.

for GCSE's make sure you do maths and the 3 sciences. The rest aren't that important. if you want to do medecine, you need all a's or stars at gcse.

At A level, do chem, bio, maths, and possibly another. Beware these 3 courses are said to be hard together.

Do medecine at uni, then specialise in surgery.

I think that this is the right thing but check it first

  2. Im a first year medical student in london so i should be of some help :-)

Do well in your GCSEs (get mostly above Bs, but a C is still acceptable at most unis).

Choose Chemistry and Biology, as well as another A level that interests you (preferably a science, e.g. physics, maths or psychology, but something else that is reasonably respected is accpetable, e.g. art, geography, history) and an AS level.

Get AAAb (minimum) in these A-levels, do some work experience in a hospital/GP/care home and while doing these apply for medicine (current UCAS code A100) at a few universities that you like.

Complete the 5/6 years at this to gain an MBBS (bachelor of medicine and surgery - a medical degree) and then get an foundation placement at a hospital.

Complete this 2 year (paid, you're a doctor now!) placement and then apply for specialist training in a field of your choice and then your on your way to becoming a fully qualified surgeon!

It sounds like a lot but is actually pretty straightforward and easy to understand when you get to each stage. Try and research some other careers as you're still young, medicine is very specific and its best to know that its the thing you definitely want to do. Good luck.
