Meteorology has become one of your fortes, like i can now look out the window and tell you exactly what the day is going to be like, if it's going to rain or be windy...i know which clouds bring on cold weather and which mean it's going to be warm.

i've found my family come to me and ask me if it's going to rain today. I think that I could become the next weather girl, i'm so good at this.

I can say oh it's going to rain so we better get riding now, it'll hit before 12 and it does. or we better double rug the horses tonight i can feel frost, and there is...

have you become a bit of a meteorologist, since owning horses?

  1. im like that a lot. when i wake up amd look out the window, ill be able to tell you if its going to rain. i want to be an air traffic controller so this isn't a bad thing.  i feel like im ahead of people because if i think its gonna rain soon, i use that to determine when to ride. its no big deal. take advantage of it and itll help you figure out the best time to do barn work and ride. Good Luck and Keep Ridin!

  2. I think if you're any kind of "outdoorsy" person you start to get a "sixth sense" about the weather. Haha

I can "predict" If the day is going to be cloudy, sunny, rainy, hot as h**l < ...LOL that ones easy. It doesn't snow where I live so if it one day did that's about the only kind of weather that WOULD shock me...

  3. ummm no but i have 5 horses!

  4. yeah, one time at a show we were at the horses were staying in little pens we made, and we were sleeping in the gooseneck. in the middle of the night i woke up, and there was a storm. the pens were right next to a big pine tree. all i knew was that the horses were in danger.so as quick as i could i woke up the people in the 3 floats next to us who also had their horses in there as well. we got them out lickety split and just as the last one was being put in a different pen that the showgrounds already had(we liked to be close to them when were at shows) the big pine fell over and landed right where my horse was standing. talk about lucky! im not sure if that was what you were talking about but yeah.

  5. Absolutely!

I've discovered that if they are wet, it been raining.

If they are dry, generally the weather's been clear.

If they're woolly, usually its been cold a while.

and if they're all slicked out, most likely its been warm a spell.

  6. Yes, and the reeason is, horses have the same ability. By hanging around horses so often you eventually build the same strengths and weaknesses and abilities as the horses do. But don't be worried or alarmed, think of it as a super power like advantage.

  7. haha good to know i'm not the only one with special powers

  8. sure. i didnt though cause my mustang didnt need it.

  9. yeah, i totally agree with you! i wake up in the morning and look and see if the weather is good enough to go riding and i can kinda tell if its gonna rain or not and stuff!!

  10. It comes from being outside more. I worked at an indoor job for 5 year, and because I did live most of my life outside I could do many of these thing you mentioned. Now I work out side and love it. The more your outside you become in tune with the weather.

Plus my bum knee helps out a bit. HA!

  11. No not really. I did get a lot better at guessing the time from the sun though. Probably the result of not riding with a watch

  12. Yeah! In CA, it's not too much of a challenge, but we get the rare rain or wind, and even a little bit overcast.

  13. I always was as long as I can remember.  It comes from spending a LOT of time outside.  I would be there now but it is raining (again).

This is the wettest year we have EVER had.  We had the years average by the last of March and though the rains usually dry up near the end on may, this year we have not had a single week without rain.  During one storm we had the average precip. for three months.

Can you smell rain yet?  Dead give away that rain is coming.

  14. No...and I have 3 horses. Don't worry, it will past and all you will be is just another horse owner.

  15. humph

  16. not really, i mean, yeah I can usually tell what its gonna do tomorrow, but It doesn't matter cuz I can ride my horse in any weather, he could care less.

  17. Ahhh yess grasshaapahhh...

So you need to change your avatar to a mad scientist/meteorologist then! lol

Seriously though, they say humans use only a small portion of their brain, and if you are in tune with your senses, watch the animals, or just get that feeling, you know what the weather is going to be.  Plus, the more you get buggered up by being around horses those old injuries are like a barometer.  I used to be invincible, but now I ache in those places before a weather change!  Those old farts talking about a trick knee, they are right!

  18. not really i have 6 horses and i've have had them since birth (theirs) like 10 years for three of them the others are about 2 3 5  i think
