Question:

Being a journalist and starting a family?

Hi,

I'm studying journalism at uni at the moment (in London) and it's going really really well, I finish in two years...

But something one of my tutors said does concern me a little bit... apparently 70% of journalists never get married? I don't know how accurate that is (probably not very!) but it got me thinking, how hard would it be to be a newspaper journalist (like at a local paper) and be a wife and have kids at the same time?

What do female journalists do? Is taking a career break when I want to start a family (which is pretty soon) my only option? or are there other options so I could work (which I want to do) at the same time?

Thanks!!

  1. Do not listen to your teacher you could still be a journalist and still have a family and work part time. It is like i right now I am studying to be An open heart surgeon and statistics say about 1% of women  become a heart surgeon if we follow statistics ...... You can defintly do both.

Good luck Georgia  next year i will continue my studys in Oxford University maybe i will see your name on a journal article . Good luck georgia.adamopulos@yahoo.com

  2. I work as a reporter on a newspaper just outside London and all four female reporters are married, three with kids. So don't panic!
