Being a journalist and wearing hijab?

Hi,

I am a Muslim girl studying journalism and I wear the hijab... how difficult do you honestly think it would be to get a job as a journalist wearing hijab?

well, i am part muslim and the part of my family that is muslim and wears hijab has a hard time working anywhere, so it would probably be the same with journalism

I really wouldn't know.  What sort of journalism are you looking at getting into? If you choose a respectable media outlet such as the BBC then you'd have no problems.

I really don't think wearing a hijab would hinder your prospects.  It all depends on your skills and attitude and reprting the truth and not twisting it to suit any particular agenda one might have.

It depends who you work for. In the U.K it shouldn't be a problem for you and if it is, we do have Religious discrimination laws that should act in your favour. As long as you as good or better than the other candidates for a job you should find that you have nothing to fear.

I totally understand you because my cousin deals with that all the time. My whole family is muslim and they're from egypt. and im egyptian but i was born here in The USA. my cousin Zinab wants to do alot of things and they look at her funny. in school they call her a terrorist and a killer. They do the same to me but its different because 1. im a guy and i dont wear a hijab so they really dont say much. and 2. im half jamaican so they really dont ask me what i am as far as race. just stick it out. Might be an advantage when reporting in certain areas as it show respect for cetain cultures and beliefs

Don't let anything stop you from pleasing Allah by wearing hijab and know that hijabis can do anything!  :-) There is a hijabi news anchor on t.v. named Mnar Muhawesh. We plan to interview her for our hijab fashion website:

it shouldnt really be but some ppl could make a fuss

n also it could be an advantage as u could be given more stories/cases regarding islam i.e it would make u first choice for stories like tht which r always interesting
