Being a professional driver? ?

I was recently thinking about some cool jobs, and a professional driver came to mind. The kind of people who get paid to test drive fords, chevy's, toyotas, hondas, nissans, etc. new cars. How does someone actually get into this field of work? And, also, are they paid good money? I know that people like this can also get into commercials for the cars as well, b/c in all commercials about cars you always see "Professional driver on a closed course". So if anyone has any info on how to actually get into this field of work, and about how well it pays, I would greatly appreciate it!! Thanks guys.

Most of those drivers are unsuccessful (unwinning) race drivers.  And in any of those "trophy" jobs, there are many more applicants than jobs so there no need to pay well.
