ok, i kinda wanna be a vegetarian (cutie pi 3.14 don't answer this question cuz i know what you'll say) I don't really like meat... at all really. I told my parents (i'm 13) how i feel, and they laughed at me and said 'meat is good yum yum'. I asked them why they were forcing me to eat meat and they said 'honey we can't afford for you to be a vegetarian' and i really don't wanna eat meat, but we don't exactly have a lot of fruits and veggies in our house, and we have lots of meat and i really don't know what to do! Please help! How do i convince them to let me be who i want to be? 10 points to the best aaswer that helps me out the most.

  1. well I thought that way at fist to but it can be cheap in different ways we all look for sales and buy one get one frees to. A  great Idea is to make your own garden and grow veggies and fruits it will take a while to grow but it builds charater and helps the eviorment. Maybe you could bargin with them and say that you will be willing to do more work around the house and maybe get your own job and ask them to match what you earn. hope this helps!

  2. Can't afford it?? Since when is vegetarianism expensive? This is news to me. ;)

Why don't you go with them on their next trip to the store? Grab some pasta, rice, veggies, fruits, spreads, maybe some sauces you like. None of that is any more expensive than a pound of dead animal. Tofu can get kinda pricey, but it's not a necessity. If they're still not keen, the best thing to do is show them you've done your research. Show statistics about vegetarians leading healthier lives, living longer, etc. Don't make it condescending, like "meat is bad for A, B, and C", but more positive like "vegetarianism is great because...".

Some simple meals you can make to hold you over:

    Pasta & sauce

Rice & beans (Great with olive oil and garlic!)

Sammiches (If you're not vegan, try cream cheese with vegetables. If you are, try peanut butter and fluff!)

Salad (Even if you don't have a lot of veggies, you can't go wrong with lettuce, cucumbers, and a great dressing)

Don't let 'em get you down. If you show you're responsible, they'll respect your decision regardless of whether or not they understand it.

  3. If it's a matter of cost, you either need to convince your parents that veggies are cheaper (which some are and some are not) or you need to go get a job and buy your own food.

  4. Keep it up . Tell them you want vegetables as they are cheaper than meat. Can you cook. Maybe you can get some information on Yahoo answers how to cook the things you like. You must replace the meat though with other proteins like Rice pasta wholemeal breads nuts or lentils and have a balanced diet at your age. Let your parents know again. It will be hard for them to adjust after only knowing their way of eating. so make it known without anger and persist with your talking. They think they are doing the best for you . Your interest will be in their hearts and maybe they haven't much time to consider adjusting. so do your best to help out. Good luck.

  5. u need 2 show them that u did ur reasearch on the subject  and let them know your serious.  At dinner, say 2 ur mom "im not very hungry..." take only the veggie side dish in a large amount.  Or get a job and buy your own food for the subject.

P.S if u do this wait until monday b/c most of our cookout food will b meat (trust me i wont eat much of it either!)

  6. Stick up for what you believe in even if you are left standing alone. I'm your age, and officially became a vegetarian 2 weeks and 2 days ago. I've never felt better. My parents aren't that supportive of it, but I will stick to it no matter what. Tell them if they buy more fruits and vegetables, it will be healthier for them and for you. They want their little girl to be healthy, don't they? When you're a vegetarian there are still so many good foods! I just came across this website, and the food sounds delicious!

Ask them to buy vegetarian meat, and when they eat any meal that has real meat in it, just replace it with fake meat. It will taste the same. Vegetarian meat from a grocery store isn't expensive at all. And since you wont be eating meat anymore, they wont have to spend as much money on meat. So that means the money they didn't use can go towards your vegetarian foods. Hope I helped! Btw, here is a vegetarian starter kit that you can download! Click the 'click here' button.

Being vegetarian means being healthier, make sure you get a lot of protein everyday, 'mock' or fake meat has a lot of protein in it.
