  1. yes

  2. If you are an Australian citizen then no but if you are an Australian resident as long as you have return residency visa (ie your visa is not due to expire) then you can work...

  3. Australians do not need visas or work permits as a special agreement exists between the countries.

  4. No. We still stick to our original agreement with Australia guaranteeing free travel and access in both countries even if the Australian government shifted the goalposts on us. Technically you still don't need a passport to visit New Zealand but you will need it to return to Australia. When we return from Australia, New Zealand customs don't even bother to stamp our NZ passports. So in short, come over, enjoy, where the bloody h**l are ya?

BTW if we want to join Australia, no bloody Howard Government can stop us. Its enshrined in the Australian Constitution 1901 that we are allowed to join if we want, and we took part in the Federation discussions and decided not to join at the time. I can't see it happening in my lifetime, especially if you keep voting for Howard. I was present when he visited New Zealand in 2003 just before the Iraq war and I saw him get assaulted by protesters. We hate him. He's George W. Hitler's buttboy and lapdog.
