Question:

Being asked to leave my job over a tongue piercing?

My boss and I have rivaled about this. Always wants to force me to take it off. Mind you, once I did and I had to re-pierce it because its a new piercing. After that I never did. And I feel I shouldn't have to.

Once my boss even went as far as telling me that they'll get pliers and "pull that **** out your mouth".

Yesterday I was basically told to go home. In anger I left.

I don't think it's right and that I should have to quit over that? I'm happy though cause I went through labor abuse there. I worked three months with NO day off.

But I just want to hear opinions.

  1. do you have to talk to customers?

    if not its completely unnessasary.

go get one of those small clear ones and DONT play with it!

i had a boss give me some trouble aver it last year he didnt even notice i had one until i sneezed and the ball came off and i went to the bathroom to wash it and put it back in, he was like "what was that" i told him and hes like "you cant have that in your mouth at work" but i just put a clear one in the day after and he hasn't mentioned it sense.

you deserve to stay if you do your job correctly. try to get away with a clear one or a flat top one.

    HTH

  2. depends on where you work. if u deal with customers, most companies dont allow them.

  3. Well employers have the right to request any piercings or tattoos covered, and if you don't comply they have the right to fire you. Whether you feel this is "right" or not really holds no weight. A lot of companies feel piercings are simply unprofessional. I guarantee anywhere you get a job, unless it's a liberal or retro company, you will be informed that your piercing is inappropriate.

In my opinion you're going to have to do one of the following:

Buy a discreet tongue ring to wear at work OR

Wait until the piercing is old enough so that it won't heal, and take out the ring when at work OR

Just deal with the fact that your piercing is causing you more trouble than it is likely worth, and get rid of it.

    The choice is yours.

    GOOD LUCK!

  4. well, youre out of luck here, you dont want to hear it get a job somewhere else, its that simple

  5. sounds like your boss does have a few unnecessary requirements, but you should try to stay above that even if it does mean abiding by the rules.

  6. if he is the owner of the company he can basically do whatever he wants

because he writes the company policy

but if it's a privately owned corp

he really shouldn't be able to boss you around like that

unless it looks bad for the company or its image

  7. well if i was you  ..i would take the piercing off before going to work...

or find a new job ...

but i will stick with the job you have now .. and remove the piecing...

    its da rules...so ..i guess..

i mean if i was a manager ,..i dont want any of my staff memebers to have a piercing on the tonuge or the eyebrwo or anyway in the face ..

    goodd lcuk !

  8. Work at Walmart- they have a lot of girls and guys with tattoos and piercings-  maybe because no one else will hire them- if you work in a professional place you are to cover your tattoos and take out the piercings- I will get a lot of thumbs down for this, but it is the truth-

  9. he''s running a business and they will always have the motto, " there's always somebody better" meaning he can just hire someone who doesn't have a tongue ring no problem. if its your thing thats cool but i think your job is alot more important that your tongue ring. just my $0.02

  10. If the business required an employee remove a piercing during working hours, then you must follow those rules.  If you agree to work at any establishment, then you agree to abide by their rules, regardless of whether the rules were in place before or after you became employed there.

I say kudos to the employer for sticking to their rules.  I get really disgusted and fed up with having to be served by people with a bunch of disgusting piercings.  When I go to a place of business that does not have a high regard for the respect of their patrons, and who has a low regard for the appearance of their employees, then I do not give that company my business.  That business is only hurting their bottom line by not raising their employment standards, as they lose repeat business.

I know you won't like this answer, but if you can't follow the company's rules, then they have every right to dispatch you and no, you don't have to be happy about it.
