Question:

Being born g*y vs. being born a murderer?

lol, to pose this question is rather silly to me but I wanted to see others responses. I got into a debate with a Catholic friend of mine in which I was defending being g*y (I'm straight). I said that I think that you're just born that way/not really a choice and he shot right back and said well are serial killers born serial killers? Don't they have that choice? I replied back that tt's stated that homosexuality is not a mental illness. Don't most serial killers have some type of mental illness?

I think it's a ridiculous comparision but I'm just throwing that out there to see what you guys think.

  1. No most serial killers dont have mental illness.  But no they are both sin.

  2. I don't think anyone's born anyway. Well that's a lie, my cousin was g*y when he was 3 and he has been since then. the majority of people have something dramatic happen to them in life and that's why they change their preference. there's nothing wrong with being g*y. It's what they like. It's like liking dark chocolate instead of milk. Your not born with the preference. It just happens

  3. The comparison is a bad one because being g*y is a natural thing for many people and doesn't hurt anyone. There's no wrong in being g*y, other than in the tiny little minds of brainwashed people. And that's their problem.

But your friend made a good point. To suppose that serial killers "make a choice" is to suggest that lots of people would like to go around killing a bunch of people but make the choice not to. I dunno... Maybe some people, especially Christians, feel murderous sometimes and have to literally resist the urge to kill. But I would say with sane people killing for fun is not something they must decide "not to" do.

Science just doesn't know what's wrong in the heads of a small percentage of people who seem totally incapable of feeling compassion, empathy, guilt, responsibility ... all the things that most of us are born with that keep us civilized and living a sane life.

The more science discovers, the more the truth seems to be that hardcore criminals - especially killers - aren't born with the same safeguards that everyone else is. In essence, they can't help themselves, or they find it very hard to really *feel* the things the rest of us feel.

Of course, there are degrees of this and some people are more helpless than others about overcoming compulsions to do harm to another person.

Medical science has a long way to go before it can treat or prevent the kind of apparent neurological malfunctions that serial killers, for example, have hardwired into their brains.

  4. Scientific evidence shows the causes of true homosexuality are biological.

here is a good example put in "layman's" terms

The science on serial killers however depends more on the individual and frankly the science hasn't really been done as such individuals tend to be executed rather than studied. Still the psychology of the true sociopath indicates there are probably both biological and environmental influences.

  5. I don't even think that's a worthwhile argument. Being g*y is harmless, inoffensive, and most of all nobodies business but the g*y person/g*y couple's. Of course it is not a choice to be g*y. Could you choose to be g*y? Could any straight person? Implying there is a choice in the first place is implying everyone is bisexual and simply chooses to be with the s*x they prefer, and that isn't the case.

A lot of serial killers are sociopaths or psychopaths, so yes they are very mentally ill. They lack empathy and human compassion and often murder as a result of psychological delusions. This can be attributed to a genetic defect but more often than not they have had terrible lives and have just gone crazy. Serial killers are nothing like homosexuals.

I don't exactly see how being a serial killer is a choice either. I couldn't choose to be a serial killer, could you?!

  6. I think you were talking to a very misinformed Catholic.

    From the CCC:

    2358

The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

  7. I'm slightly stunned at some of the answers here.  Murder is the choice, a newborn is not born with the tendency to murder.  Science tells us that even some animals are born with homosexual tendencies, and it is that v ery behavior in animals that made me realize the homosexuality is genetic - not a choice.  There may be some who "choose" it because it seems appealing, but there are way too many cases where they would not have "chosen" the lifestyle, but are compelled to live it.  Serial killers usually have normal lives until something triggers in them the desire to murder, even then it could be called a genetic thing, but you rarely hear of that being passed along from parent to child, etc.

Unlike murder, homosexuality is one of those traits that I would hate to, and therefore do not, judge.  It is up to our Maker to make those calls, and I wish everybody would realize that and just live their own  lives.  We are commanded to love everyone, and being hostile and hateful to any "group" of people seems only to diminish our own humanity, and it brings no good into our own lives.

  8. both are a choice

  9. Homosexual conduct is a choice and is sin.

No one is born g*y and no one is born a murderer.

If serial killers did not know that murder is wrong they wouldn't try to hide what they do.

If you look at the s*x organs it is not hard to see that men and women were made for each other.

  10. Just like homosexuality is a choice, being a murderer is also a choice.

  11. "born a murderer" ?? the only one that is born a murderer is Stewie Griffin and he's a fictional cartoon character.

  12. I've never seen a person who was born violent.  There are plenty of mental illnesses that people are born with, but it's been my experience that a violent nature comes from experiences and abuse.  I'm not a mental health expert, though, so I can't say it doesn't happen.

(Although now that I think of it, I have extensive experience with animals, from working at the local shelter.  And I've never seen a puppy or kitten that was "born bad")

  13. It's all in the genes.

Yes, g*y and L*****n people are born that way the same way a descendant of some serial killer has their same genes. However the difference between them (homosexual to sociopath) lies in their brain. While I might have either g*y or murderer genes on me does not make me either unless there is a predominance of either genes that dictates my cerebral functions.

  14. It's not so much of a choice (certainly not to the degree that some are guessing):-

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/745658...

Homosexuality is not immoral or unethical. Killing people is.

  15. the fool says there's no good well call me a fool can you choose to be g*y i mean you can get off with the same gender sure but you can't make yourself be attracted to them.

  16. well both are a choice

  17. I think your scenario is exactly why we aren't supposed to do the judging.

Yes, serial killers seem to be missing that cog that tells them murdering is bad.

  18. I think some people are born g*y and are also some born with the drive to kill. The reasons behind being g*y or a serial killer are varied and not everyone is the same.  A small percent of people are made killers because of abuse or other factors in their upbringing.  Some people may have learned to be g*y for what ever reason.  It is hard to understand the human mind and impossible to understand the mind of God.

  19. you are not born either way...people choose to go down those paths

  20. Babies are not born g*y or murderers.

  21. Actually, it is not a ridiculous comparison. You are basing your stance on assumptions.

How do you know homosexuality is not a mental illness. Yes, the pscychiatrists took it out of their "mental illness book" but they recently removed pedophilia as well.

Even if they are "born that way" it doesn't excuse the behavior. It has been proved that alcoholism is genetic. Does this give them the right to drink themselves to death? If they end up in court they are sentenced to jail time and AA meetings. Can they use the "I was born this way" excuse?

We are all born sinners. The Bible tells us this. So does that make it okay to choose sin? Does that mean that sin is not a choice but something we can't help and therefore should wallow in?

The understanding is that homosexuality is a deviation. It is disordered. It is against the natural order God put in place. This does not mean those affected by it are evil, or less than human, quite the contrary. They suffer and need, respect, help and prayers.

My own sister-in-law is actively g*y. I love her and genuinely care for her girlfriends. They are wonderful people and I enjoy their company. In pictures of my sister-in-law you could see, even in her teens, that she tended towards homosexuality. Was she born that way? Who knows...but even if she was it doesn't make it okay. No one can justify sin...not even homosexuals.
