Being detained by immigration at Krome detention center in Miami. How long do they keep them?

Detained because of past conviction. Not drug realted. When will he get a hearing?

  1. Unfortunately, they can keep him as long as they want to until they sort things out.  


  2. It depends. Was he applying for admission or already in the country? An applicant for admission is not entitled to be bonded out.

    Detention is mandatory for criminal aliens who are applying for admission.

    If he has a green card, he will get a bond hearing before the Immigration Judge, but if they feel he is not likely to show up for his removal hearing, they'll keep him locked up.

    Krome is very crowded, and the courts are very busy. It's a long line with many people in front of the person you're writing about. He should be finding out soon, if he doesn't know already, when his court date is set.
